get your degree first. That's the most important part. The next step is to watch a lot of poker videos and read poker articles. Knowledge is very important.

I agree with szury, the more you know, the more successful you are in the long run. One shouldn't depend on luck alone. There is a pile of info on the net to help you to start over.

The guys name is Dario Minieri. Look him up. Also, the guy named durrr on Fulltiltpoker was in college and started playing poker on their site and became a millionaire. Download fulltiltpoker and search for blurrr and you will see him play. He plays all the time with the pros. The serious online players have like 3 plasma screens hooked up to their computer and play off of them. Then, each screen will have about 2-4 tables on it. That's how they play so many games at once. It is almost impossible to play 16 tables at once with just one computer screen. Hope this helps.

Experience and knowledge will be the key for you. However, I recommend that you get your degree first. Remember that poker is a very risky game, and therefore, it can’t be considered as a part time job. However you can make some good money if you learn how to play well.

Also make sure you have a decent amount of money to start with so that you can afford to have losing streaks. They say you should have at least 300 big blinds worth of a bankroll although i'd say you need double this.

I am so sick of the current blind-leading-the-blind info that represents what's left of the deceased internet poker discussion world! Just because the sick, totally rigged world of internet poker is over, does'nt mean that poker is over. It's so so much tougher than in the past.
You are not doing the original asker of this any favors, by providing information that is, at best incomplete and only partially accurate.

First of all, let's remember that ADAMtheEXPERT was training people from all over the world, and making them successful players, years before any of the idiotic punks that infest this site (note: this only refers to those that have attempted to attack me, not the membership in general) even knew that there was such a thing.

    Ok, knowing that, let's procede.

The first thing you need to know, that it is by and large IMPOSSIBLE to make a living in poker, in the current world. Having a job that pays all your bills; thus making poker only an additional source of income, is ALMOST impossible.

This person is sadly many years behind the learning curve, and will have to compete with players with 5-8 years more experience.
You also will need to compete with the BLOODLUST, that is the current level of rakes, drops and collections. These scum-sucking casinos just think that a game can support whatever they wish to charge, and thus for the most part have made ALL games of affordable size, COMPLETLY UNBEATABLE. The only games of a size to try to make 10-15 bucks an hour, are 4-8 FULL KILL omaha8, and really really good 4-8 hold em games. 100 max NL is now totally OUT as a beatable game, unless you happen to be able to find one with proper buy in, blind, and rake structure. ALL OF YOU GET THIS THROUGH YOUR SKULLS: Those that now spread the game of poker, don't get a RAT'S AZZ about having a beatable game. They only want to swipe as much money off the table as possible, even if it means killing their own game(s)

THUS, in order for you to even have a CHANCE at making a "part time living" in poker, before you waste your time mastering the game, you MUST MUST MUST first make sure that there are beatable games in your area.

Otherwise, it's like spending ten year becomeing a doctor, while living in a country where no one can afford a doctor!

THIS IS CRITICAL! I mean, here I am, living in the poker capital of the WORLD, and THIS is what it takes to find a game that is beatable!

Otherwise, you really have to think in terms of : (1) minimum of 6-12 or 8-16 limit games, or 200 or 300 max PL or NL games.

It is so so sad, that the ^$@$^@king casinos have made this a reality. IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE RAKE, YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO PLAY G AMES OF THAT SIZE.! And, of course this will require a huge, huge amount of money, if you are to have any chance of success.

I really appreciated the huge belly-laugh I got from the person that said "They say that you need 300 bets, but I thnk it should be twice that."
Again, the bllind leading the blind. Someone started the figure years ago, and like the rest of the modern world THAT is just so so so WRONG, it's not even in the BALLPARK.

I feet so sorry for your generation, as you will inherit a world much like that depicted in the movie "Idiocracy"

And, you are doing it to yourself. Every time you abbreviate something, or PARROT statistics that you HEARD (but do not KNOW for a fact) Every time you let a machine do your work for you (like spell check) You are contributing to the SUBMORONIC world, where accuracy and quality of information is almost extinct.

The fact is, that bankroll requirements cannot just be summed up in one CLUCKED UP, totaLLY WRONG thing, like "300 bets,"

But is rather a totally complex formula that must include many things, including but not limited to:

    Type of game
    Skill level at said game.
    Other income coming in
Ease of getting job back, if quitting job to play poker
Years invested in pension, of said job.
Easily salable possessions owned by candidate that could be sold in emergency.

This is NOT an eazy venture, and we do NOT need any $#^@^@#$ inaccurate quotes on bankroll requirements!

Recently, I had a student go pro. But, this guy, in addition to having a one THOUSAND bet bankroll, has up to two years of unemployment checks to serve as an extension of his bankroll. He also has the advantage of huge experience, including the biggest edge one can get: TRAINING WITH ADAM! And, he lives in a place, chock full of great games, including some private with major LIVE ONES (known in your world as "fish" but of course, Adam never uses that term)

Diamon, if you find beatable games, and understand that you need a lot of money to do this, I will try to help you with other things.

BUT, in today's world, it is so close to impossible, that I'm not going to spend a lot of time going over the winning elements of poker, unless it appears you have a fighting chance.

Adam, the freakin' Expert, the top authority in the world, in poker.

    Adam hater punks, cluck you

Why don't you try making a post, WITHOUT putting in a freaking link to YOUR business! And, "I am agree with you" is hardy correct English. I spend an HOUR of my time, trying to give the person the correct information, and all you can say is that you agree with the administrator's totally obvious answer.

AGAIN, I will warn all of you: Before bothering to get an education, make sure that there are beatable games OF A SIZE THAT DOESN"T REQUIRE A SIX-FIGURE BANKROLL, in your area, BEFORE bothering to learn. Don't be fooled by this lucky punks you see on TV, winning big events all over the world. Only one in a million can do that. For the rest of us, we are talking about games of a size that can be played on the amounts of money that typical people can obtain. And, as I clearly stated, most of these are unbeatable due to excessive (to say the least( rake taken off the table.
