The sad reality of life, is that it's virtually impossible to beat small poker anymore. One needs to play at least 8-16 fixed limit, or 300 max NL games, to have a chance to overcome the rake. And, most places have totally killed their games, by changing the blind structure to accomadate their BLOODLUST for rake.

However, the underdog of the LA area, Cyrstal Park, offers a totally beatable 40 to 100max NL game. It has every element necessary to be beatable. Many of the players are total morons, attracted by their unbeatable promotion: Free room after 7 hours of play. AND, it no gotta be all in one session. In other words, people are more concerned with having a place to get laid, get high, get drunk or all three, then they are in playing correct hold em.
Most other games of this size in LA area, you MUST buy 100, no more no less. The 40 option creates a "one shot, what the hell" attitude in many of the live ones (donks, in your language) I mean, they have no problem calling with Q4 cold against a raise, then putting in 40 bucks on flop of 10 J Q! Things like that, it really is like the blind leading the blind.
Unlike other places, they still have the (proper) 1-2 blind structure, so that the ratios are not SKEWED, as they are in the IDIOTIC places that went to 2-3 (and did not raise the max to 150 or 200)
Action morons, good structures. = beatable game. If you have no use for a hotel room, then the game is only beatable for maybe 12 bucks an hour, or so. This is an estimate. BUT, if you need a room, then this figure doubles.

The service is horrilbe, the dealers poor at best. But, the games are often GREAT, and the free room just can't be beaten. Not only in it's value for those that need it, but in the types of people it attracts.

I've had my say Adam
